Taranto, 30 August 2018. In Taranto the event “Public Scape Taranto” opens, part of the Green Routes project. Seventeen artists in residency in Taranto have created nine artistic installations in the most representative places of the city between 30 August and 6 September 2018, which join the two works already produced in 2018. A press conference to present the project will be held on 6 September at 5.30 pm in the Hall of Mirrors of the Municipality of Taranto.
On 6 September 2018 Public Scape Taranto opens officially. Seventeen artists selected through an international call have produced nine artistic interventions during a one week residency from 30 August to 6 September. Thanks to the collaboration of the city’s institutions, the artworks will be placed in several symbolic sites: the Aragonese Castle of the Navy, the former convents of Sant Antonio and San Domenico curated by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage and Landscape for the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto. The Diocese of Taranto has provided the cloister of the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, while the Ministry of Justice has opened the Juvenile Court of Taranto, and finally the Municipality of Taranto has granted access to the Clock Tower.
The artists and their works will be presented during the press conference scheduled for 6 September 2018 at 5.30 pm in the Hall of Mirrors of the Municipality of Taranto, Piazza Municipio 1.
Public Scape Taranto is sponsored by the Municipality of Taranto and is part of the artistic residency program #WeAreTaranto of Green Routes, a project funded by the Foundation Con il Sud through the call “Environment is Development”. The partners of the project are AUGEO, ECCOM Progetti, Bocche del vento, CEFO P S C Maria Acclavio and ZONA.
Public Scape Taranto was created with the aim of building a widespread artistic path composed of site specific and itinerant interventions that experiment with new methods of territorial enhancement and care of the city. The project encourages cultural, social and emotional connections through artistic languages and participatory processes that involve local communities as co protagonists in the co creation and sharing of the works.
The exhibition route also includes the participatory works produced in 2018. Paesaggio Indeciso by Guendalina Salini, hosted by the Giovanni Paisiello Music Institute of Taranto, and Radicati by Alice Padovani, located in the cloister of the Museum of Sacred Art MuDI.

The artists were invited to reflect on the collective meaning of the landscape of Taranto, in constant dialogue with its communities and as an expression of shared memory and imagination. It is a landscape composed of places that already belong to a collective imaginary, yet are enriched through discovery, recognition and shared experience. By positioning themselves within this scenario, the artists have designed interventions capable of involving the communities in a reflection on the idea of environment and landscape, both natural and human made, inner and outer, real and imaginary, and on the role of the community within the urban and territorial context of the city of Taranto.
