Paradigm Gallery + Studio is pleased to present Piecing It All Together, a group exhibition of collage curated by Natasha Guy, opening on June 25, 2021, and remaining on view through July 17, 2021. For our collectors around the world, a virtual vernissage will be held on June 25 at 5:30 PM, and the exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, June 26.
This exhibition is dedicated to reassembling the past in order to make sense of our present. As we dig into our histories—both personal and collective—we discover, learn, and perhaps come closer to finding answers or at least a bit of clarity. Collage is the artistic manifestation of this excavation. By bringing together fragments of the world around us and reconfiguring them into a new vision using found or discarded objects, we are able to recreate a new whole. Perhaps, in the end, the process itself is more important than the final result.
Each of the eleven artists offers a unique perspective from which to approach the expressive medium of collage. Although the word comes from the French verb coller—to glue—the structure of collage as an artistic practice goes far beyond the cut-and-paste techniques of the early 20th century. Contemporary collage continues to push the boundaries of the medium, as explored through the works in this exhibition. From diverse materials to distinctive subjects, from three-dimensional works to video, viewers are invited to consider collage more theoretically—as a tool for making sense of change.
