On the occasion of the solo exhibition Corpus Imago, curated by Alessia Carlino at Emmetto Gallery, artist Micaela Lattanzio presented a performance in collaboration with singer-songwriter Eleonora Betti, who performed with intense delicacy “When I am Laid in Earth” (Dido’s Lament) by Henry Purcell.
The dialogue between voice and image gave life to an immersive, ritual experience: body, music, and light intertwined into a single poetic narrative, revealing the spiritual and metamorphic dimension that permeates the entire project.
Through her film-directed piece, Lattanzio guides the viewer on a journey of dissolution and rebirth, where the body becomes fragment and root — an echo of a return to the earth and to the dream.
“We will return to the earth, and as from a dream we shall awaken —in a constant cycle between light and shadow. In a flash, our divided molecules will rise beyond the stars.Merging and gathering, they will become roots. No boundary will separate us — we will be everywhere, we will be together, until the flower blooms. And from there, petal by petal, sprout by sprout,we shall be reborn — exiles and travelers, like extraordinary bulbs.”
